SIGN language

SIGN stands for:

• Shaming
• Insulting
• Guilt-tripping
• Name-calling

Problem

This is a family of tactics used by manipulative people. It leverages our normal human need for approval and acceptance, to bully us into doing things that generally are not in our own interest.

If doing X instead of Y was truly a good idea, they would be able to provide a list of reasons for doing X. For example, "You should pay of your credit card balance so that you keep more of your money, instead of paying interest to the bank every month.".

Instead, an example of SIGN language would be "You have a steady job! You should splurge for a new bridesmaid dress for your sister for her big day (guilt-tripping). Instead you just want to wear a nice dress you already own. You are being selfish (name-calling)!".

Other examples are:

• JohnKerry, BernieSanders, GretaThunberg, AOC, etc flying about on private jets while telling us we're killing the planet (insulting, guilt-tripping) because we want to drive cars.
• Tradcons slut-shaming (literally has "shame" in the label) young women who sleep around.
• Tradcons saying young men aren't "real men" (insulting, shaming) because they don't ask women out on dates.
• Feminists name-calling trad-wives as "servants" and "slaves".
• Feminists name-calling women "pickme's" when they say they want a boyfriend.
• Feminists shaming men as "insecure" when they don't want to marry women who've boinked the entire local hockey team.

As Raging Golden Eagle says, feminists are social-justice-warriors, and tradcons are social-justice-classic.

Solution

When you interact with people who do this (and you will), and you identify this communication pattern, all you have to do is disengage. Walk away. People like this can't be fixed. This tactic works on normies too often for these people to ever change their ways.

There are 8 billion people on this planet, and you don't interact with most of them. Cutting out 5, 10, 20 more isn't a big deal, and isn't going to be a loss in the slightest. If they had good arguments, they'd show you respect by using the good arguments. Instead, they'd rather take the easy way and just manipulate and bully you. Cut them out of your life.
