Starve the beast

A lot of societal discourse right now is around "fighting" for a "cause" that's on the "right side of history".

You don't have to fight. You certainly don't have to fight in a battle that doesn't concern you. You don't have to put in your MEAT (money, energy, attention, time) for someone else's battle.

Each side has people who are trained in pulling your heartstrings, making appeals to emotion, and short-circuiting any and all critical thinking processes. They'll happily try to "activate" you into being their zealous footsoldier.

Problem

You waste your MEAT and they benefit from it. Think about it, if your favoured political party (red or blue, doesn't matter who) wins, will you personally gain from it? When was the last time that happened? When was the last time you materially benefited?

I'm not talking about winning some BS metaphysical thing, like gay marriage. Marriage itself is a dying institution; it's little more than a piece of paper at this point. I'm not talking about winning some theoretical moral victory. I'm talking about actual quantifiable material gain. I'm not talking about quantifiable material gain to other people; I'm talking about actual quantifiable material gain to YOU.

The politicians on both sides are making plenty of quantifiable 💸 material 💰 gain 🤑. Team red, team blue, neither cares about you.

I've lived under Liberal rule and Conservative rule. The drama between these politicians has had ZERO effect on my day-to-day life. It's just TV at this point, with old and ugly people instead of young and hot people. Don't waste your MEAT on this.

Solution

This will not be easy. Habits are difficult things to change. You'll need to detox yourself from this drama. Turn off the cable and go outside for a walk in the park. Touch grass. Actually bend down or squat and touch the grass. Lie under the shade of a tree and zone out looking at the clouds for 10 minutes.

It'll be difficult. 10 minutes is a ridiculously long time to be unplugged from the constant monkey chatter from the talking heads on CNN and on FOX. Take that 10 minutes, feel how difficult it is, and realize how far you've sunk into their quicksand. I wish you well in pulling yourself out of this.

You need to pull yourself out of this. They have succeeded for years in having you pay attention to their drama, and they've lived rent-free in your head. Stop paying attention to them. Stop giving them money. Focus on yourself, because they'd like nothing more than for you to keep focused on them. Nobody cares for you more than yourself.

Noone else will do this for you.
